Ielts stands for International English Language Testing System. A global English proficiency test jointly owned by the British Council, IDP Education Group and Cambridge Assessment English. Candidates can choose either the academic (Category A) or the training (Category G) examination based on their goals. Ielts is recognized by over 11,500 institutions in more than 140 countries around the world, including universities, employers, professional bodies and immigration authorities.
The examination content covers four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Among them, the speaking section adopts the form of face-to-face dialogue with real examiners to simulate a real communication environment. One of its goals is to help candidates use English freely in academic, life and workplace scenarios.
An outstanding IELTS score report can meet the language admission requirements when applying to overseas universities, exempting students from foundation courses or language courses and allowing them to directly enter the main course of study. The IELTS test mainly consists of four independent sections: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
The reading and writing questions for the academic category (Category A) and the training category (Category G) are different, while the listening and speaking questions are exactly the same.
Candidates can choose the corresponding category based on their needs for further education or immigration.

Assessment and Examination
The total test duration is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes (excluding the waiting time for the oral test)
Listening: 30 minutes (including 10 minutes for transcribing answers)
Reading: 60 minutes
Writing: 60 minutes
Oral English: 11 to 14 minutes

Grading System
The scoring system adopts a scale of 1 to 9 points, with each part being awarded independently. The final total score is the average of the scores of the four parts (rounded to the nearest half point).
9 points: Expert-level user
7 points: Good user
6 points: Qualified user
5 points: Basic user
Below 4 points: Limited or extremely limited users
Most top universities require an overall score of 6.5 or 7.0 or above.
